The findings published for Iraq in Q3 2026 recorded three straight months of falling foreign reserves. Reserves fell from $74.7 billion in March 2026 to $64.4 billion in June 2026, a decline of 14%.
Government spending at constant prices rose for four straight years, from $41 billion in 2020 to $57.1 billion in 2024, an increase of 39%. GNI per person, measured using the Atlas method, rose for three straight years, from $4,740 in 2021 to $6,030 in 2024, an increase of 27%.
Methane emissions from the power industry rose for ten straight years, from 57,300 tonnes of CO2e in 2014 to 132,500 tonnes in 2024, more than doubling. The rise went back to 2012. Taken together, the quarter’s findings documented annual increases in spending, income per person and power-industry methane emissions through 2024, followed chronologically by the reserve decline recorded from March to June 2026.
MENACodex’s findings were statistically detected from multilateral-source data, including IMF reserves data, and were checked before publication. This brief covered findings published in Q3 2026 and used the newer reserves finding rather than the superseded version.
