Libya’s annual inflation reached 12.7% in June 2026, 9.2 percentage points above its 2021–2026 average of 3.53%. A gap that large had appeared twice in the preceding 58 months. The Q3 2026 findings thus documented an unusually elevated inflation reading from before the publication quarter.
Longer-running measures moved in different directions. Export purchasing power at constant prices fell for three straight years, from 37.5 billion in local currency in 2021 to 22.3 billion in 2024, a decline of 41%. GNI at purchasing-power parity rose for three straight years, from $88.9 billion in 2022 to $127.9 billion in 2025, an increase of 44%. The periods overlapped, although the GNI series extended one year beyond the export purchasing-power series.
Taken together, the findings published in Q3 2026 recorded declining export purchasing power through 2024, rising purchasing-power-parity GNI through 2025, and above-average inflation in June 2026. They documented movements across different observation periods rather than changes measured during July–September 2026; findings marked as later replaced were excluded from this brief.
Findings were statistically detected from multilateral-source data, including the named IMF source, and were checked before publication. This brief covered findings published in Q3 2026, while retaining their stated observation periods.
